Job Description

Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting laboratory tests, experiments and determinations in support of Dr. Bursa's Cardiac Electrophysiology and Tissue Engineering laboratory in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Duke University.

Work Performed

Responsibilities include fixing, embedding, sectioning, and immunohistology of heart, muscle, liver, and other tissues from mice, rats, and pigs; confocal imaging and image analysis and quantification; tissue homogenization, RNA and protein isolation, qRT-PCR and immunoblotting; assistance with preoperative and postoperative care for rodents (rats and mice). Should be able to work alone and in team, independently review related scientific literature to troubleshoot encountered problems and improve on used methodologies. Will also occasionally train and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in immunostaining and animal care techniques.
