About the opportunity 

This position is funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project. We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemical Engineering with expertise in carbon materials to undertake research on the charging mechanisms of carbon electrode materials in metal-ion batteries and supercapacitors towards developing efficient energy storage devices. Suitably qualified applicants should have demonstrated experience in the synthesis of carbon materials, the assembly and characterisation of metal ion batteries and supercapacitors, publishing in high impact scientific journals. Additional skills in material characterisation and modelling of ion transport phenomena will be ideal for this position. 

In this role you will:

  • Manage your own academic research and administrative activates including small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
  • Adopt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols
  • Train postgraduate and undergraduate students on scientific techniques and experimental protocols.
  • Undertake comprehensive and systematic literature reviews and write up the results for publication in high-impact journals.
  • Prepare journal articles based on experimental results for publication on high-impact journals.

About you

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • a PhD in chemistry (electrochemistry) /chemical engineering / material science and engineering (or other closely related field) from a reputable institution
  • a track record of publications in top journals (i.e. on journals with an impact factor above 10)
  • experience in supercapacitor or metal (i.e. sodium) ion battery assembly and characterisation
  • experience in carbon material synthesis and material characterisation, e.g., SEM/TEM/XRD/physisorption, etc.
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills with high level of competency in both written and spoken English.
  • experience in solid-state NMR or modelling of ion transport phenomena (Desirable)
