Research Specialist position in the de la Fuente laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania: As part of the Departments of Bioengineering, Microbiology, Psychiatry, and the Perelman School of Medicine, the de la Fuente lab ( seeks exceptional new team members with the grit and passion to help make groundbreaking scientific discoveries. The candidate for this position will be independent, creative, talented, highly motivated, with excellent communication skills and the ability to excel in a team environment.

The overarching goal of the lab is to engineer biological systems to make new medicines to combat disease. The successful candidate will support the research in the laboratory by culturing bacteria, doing bacterial molecular biology and cloning, generating transposon mutants, and performing screens, next generation sequencing, and qPCR. In addition to familiarity with following experimental protocols and lab procedures, s/he will have previous experience using mouse models. The Research Specialist will also perform important laboratory maintenance tasks such as cleaning and autoclaving dishware, preparing media, ordering, and maintaining reagents, supplies and lab inventory. The candidate will also assist in the development and implementation of protocols for laboratory safety, animal care and use, and biosafety. The successful candidate will interpret and organize results, maintain an up-to-date laboratory notebook, and prepare short reports.

The minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
