Post-doctoral Fellow in Computational Condensed Matter Physics
The University of Hong Kong 's highest priorities are to create opportunities for the very best academic talents to excel and to advance human knowledge to the benefit of society. We serve the needs of Hong Kong, the wider region and the rest of the world.
Department : Department of Physics
Closing Date : December 31, 2018
Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Computational Condensed Matter Physics in the Department of Physics, to commence as soon as possible for two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Condensed Matter Physics. Experience in numerical techniques and field-theoretical approaches is desirable. Applicants who are in the process of completing a Ph.D. degree will also be considered. The appointee will work with Dr. Ziyang Meng to conduct research on computational condensed matter physics. Areas of research include quantum Monte Carlo methods, density matrix renormalization group and tensor network states, dynamical mean-field theory and its cluster extension and machine-learning, with particular focus on applying these numerical approaches to quantum many-body systems, such as correlated 2D materials, interacting Dirac-fermion systems, frustrated magnets, topological order, quantum phase transitions beyond Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson paradigms, etc.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
Applicants should send a completed application form together with an up-to-date C.V., a cover letter, a list of publications and a statement of research interests to Dr. Ziyang Meng at email@example.com. Applicants should also arrange three recommendation letters to be sent to Dr. Meng directly by the referees. Application forms (341/1111) can be downloaded at http://www.hr.hku.hk/apptunit/form-ext.doc. Further particulars can be obtained at http://jobs.hku.hk/. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and continue until December 31, 2018, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
The University thanks applicants for their interest, but advises that only candidates shortlisted for interviews will be notified of the application result.
