Job Description

Dermatology 3k Clinic - Durham 

The LPN role at Clinic 3K provides clinical support for the dermatology providers and their patients. The LPN assumes responsibility for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in patient care area. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the LPN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. This support includes both direct and indirect patient care activities to sustain the clinical operations and meet the needs of the providers, their patients and the clinic.  The LPN in Clinic 3K will be assigned in clinical staffing roles, providing direct patient care and administrative support for indirect patient care duties.  The LPN role will rotate between administrative and clinical roles at a quarterly minimum, but can rotate more frequently as clinic needs dictate.  Rotations are subject to completion of orientation, validation of competencies, availability of providers, availability of staff and proven ability to multi-task and manage time well independently.  Rotation between roles will be subject to management discretion.


  • Assist physicians and other nursing personnel in the performance of various diagnostic procedures.
  • Evaluate nursing care with emphasis on nursing procedures and patient responses; assist in the delivery of nursing care and selection of nursing priorities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of general policies and procedures to provide for the emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients; participate in the formulation of new policies.
  • Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and other material resources.
  • Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assists in performance improvement activities.
  • Assist with control of material resources and maintenance;
  • Assist in appraisal of effectiveness of material and equipment and report any equipment malfunctions to charge nurse.
  • Participate in in-service education programs and other conferences within the service.
  • Assist in the training of new employees.
  • Duties Adhere to Joint Commission, Environment of Care and Infection Prevention guidelines reviewed in monthly EOC, TJC and IPL rounds
  • Set up for sterile procedures Prepare a sterile instrument tray Clean and package surgical instruments for sterilization
  • Assist provider with the following procedures;
  • Shave biopsy, Punch biopsy Excisions, ED&C, Cryotherapy, Unna Boots Review the New/Return patient form with the patient
  • Review patient history questionnaire
  • Complete global assessment for every return patient
  • Complete a learning assessment for every patient on each encounter
  • Assisting in tracking infection rates during suture removal Record vital signs, medication reconciliation and allergy identification
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


  • Dermatology experience preferred
  • Knowledge of dermatology procedures, cryotherapy, biopsies, excisions, electrodessication and curettage preferred.  
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of various EMR software, including EPIC preferred.


Work requires graduation from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program and successful completion of an approved Pharmacology program.

No experience required. 

Current State of North Carolina LPN licensure is required.
