An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mandarin-speaking International Student Academic Mentor within the Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise Progress Team. This one-year part-time position is to provide mentoring and advice to international students studying on undergraduate degree programmes, predominantly within the Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise, in order to facilitate a culture of success and achievement. Additionally, the role involves offering support to Faculty Academics to better understand the international student experience.
As a member of the Progress Team, the post holder will meet with international students, serving as a first point of contact to offer advice and signposting within the University. In liaison with academic tutors, s/he will help identify international students who would benefit from additional support. An important aspect of the role is to serve as an authoritative source of information about adapting to life in the UK and supporting transition to study, whilst developing and implementing informal learning communities through the use of group sessions and appropriate social media platforms such as WeChat.
The post-holder will be fluent in Mandarin with an excellent command of written and spoken English, having secured an undergraduate degree from a UK university in a discipline related to Business and Management. S/he will also have either formal or informal experience of assisting or mentoring international students and an understanding of the skills and knowledge required by such students to meet the demands of UK Higher Education.
