About the role
At the EPSRC we have historically taken an active approach to managing relationships with key partner organisations.
With the creation of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and a changing funding landscape from new opportunities such as the Government’s National Productivity Investment Fund, we need to evolve our business model in order to be more agile and further build on the relationships we have developed with our key partners.
UKRI has a strong emphasis on collaborative working to encourage novel excellent research and innovation; the introduction of the Regional Manager will help to strengthen our links and relationships with academic institutions, senior officials, local research intensive industries, Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and other organisations in the regions of the UK.
As a pilot the Regional Manager role will enable us to better understand the Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) research landscape which will in turn help to inform our strategy. A crucial priority for this role will be to engage with key stakeholders to ensure that the value of our EPS investments is maximised.
The role will involve engaging with stakeholders at all levels as part of our active knowledge management approach to further our understanding of their strategy, behaviour, capability and capacity in relation to their research, training and knowledge exchange.
You will play a key role in developing EPSRC’s relationships further into a wider variety of new and existing stakeholders and increase our impact with each of the regions, identifying opportunities for alignment and collaboration. It will also be important for you to communicate and to work together as part of the wider team of Regional Managers and Portfolio Managers, to ensure a coherent and joined up approach at a national level.
Positions are available covering Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West England and Wales. Please state which region(s) you are applying for in your cover letter.
It is essential that you have effective leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire others to work effectively to deliver their own personal objectives and contribute to meeting corporate goals.
You will have an ability to establish effective working relationships and networks internally and externally with a wide range of organisations at a senior level and have an ability to innovate and to lead the development and implementation of new ideas and approaches.
