Director
Balsillie School of International Affairs

The Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) seeks to appoint an outstanding academic leader as its new Director. We acknowledge that the School is located on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishnaabeg and Haudenosaunee people. The BSIA a not-for-profit corporation, is a partnership among the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the Centre for International Governance Innovation. With more than 80 affiliated faculty members, the School is a major international centre for research on global governance and international public policy and, through the programs it hosts for its university partners, one of Canada’s leading providers of graduate education in these fields.

The BSIA Director will provide leadership to build the profile and reputation of Balsillie, will develop and engage a broad range of partners in the School’s work, and will ensure that the financial resources are in place to support the many exciting initiatives that BSIA undertakes. The ideal candidate will be internationally recognized for the quality of their research. They would have substantial experience in academic administration and have demonstrated success in applying for external research funding. The Director will bring with them extensive experience in building relationships with local, domestic and international partners and stakeholders.

The Director will be appointed to a tenured faculty appointment at one of the two universities, and seconded for an initial period of five years to the School.

The Balsillie School of International Affairs is committed to equity and inclusion and encourages diversity. We welcome applications from candidates who identify as Indigenous, women, racialized, having disabilities, and from persons of any sexual identities.  Those from the designated groups are encouraged to self-disclose, in confidence to Colleen Keenan at colleen.keenan@odgersberndtson.com. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, as per Canadian immigration laws, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. To comply with the Government of Canada’s reporting requirements, we are obligated to gather information about applicants’ status as either Permanent Residents of Canada or Canadian citizens. Applicants need not identify their country of origin or current citizenships; however, all applicants must include one of the following statements in their cover letter:

Yes, I am a current citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
No, I am not a current citizen or permanent resident of Canada

The Balsillie School of International Affairs is committed to ensuring an accessible application process; if we can assist you in applying for this position or provide more information on what to expect throughout the selection process, please contact Colleen Keenan at colleen.keenan@odgersberndtson.com.

Consideration of candidates begins in November 2018, with the new Director to take office in the summer of 2019. Confidential inquiries, nominations, and/or applications should be directed to bsiadirector@odgersberndtson.com.
