Based in the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS) within the School of Engineering at the University of Bristol, this is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse team working on developing high performance cellulose fibres to replace glass and carbon filaments.
You will work on an EPSRC funded project to spin and characterize cellulose fibres from ionic liquid solutions. The post will involve working in a team to spin the fibres, and then to use modern advanced techniques (Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction) to characterize their structure. This is a unique opportunity to work on state-of-the-art technology in the context of a growth in the use of sustainable materials.
You will have a PhD in a Physical Science, Engineering or a closely related discipline and have some experience of working both with cellulose (or textile) fibres, and analytical techniques. You should be willing to work as part of a team and contribute to group dynamics.
The post is offered on a full time, open-ended contract basis, with funding available until 31st December 2019, starting as soon as possible.
