The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (Central) is a specialist college for the performing arts and a federal college of the University of London, offering a wide range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate degree level. In 2017, Central was awarded Gold Status in the Teaching Excellence Framework, and was the top drama conservatoire for world-leading research in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.
Central is seeking to appoint a Director of Learning and Teaching. Reporting to and working closely with the Dean, the Director of Learning and Teaching has delegated responsibility for the development, operation and enhancement of Central’s taught HE programmes, and oversight of student engagement and satisfaction. The post-holder will bring strategic thinking and excellent management skills to the Deanery’s collaborative leadership team and to the School’s Executive Management Group.
With two dedicated Deputies and leading a team of senior academic staff and learning support managers, the post-holder will nurture excellent teaching and a diverse and inclusive learning environment, while ensuring the sustainable delivery of courses to their validated specifications within planned resource allocations.
The post-holder will have a vision for specialist higher education and conservatoire training in relation to industry challenges and developments and the future role of the performing arts in society. With at least a Reader/Principal Lecturer-level of scholarship in a relevant field, the post-holder will have a broad knowledge of the practice and research in the field of the performance and theatre arts, and the international networks and intellectual leadership to ensure Central’s courses and teaching continue to be world leading.
