Our central purpose it to create, share and use knowledge to deliver equitable and sustainable futures around the world. We are looking for future colleagues who will lead and contribute to the development of world-class programmes and delivering an outstanding education. This will include designing and implementing innovative teaching methodologies using a wide variety of techniques as appropriate, for example including technology-enhanced learning, the flipped class approach, case method, experiential learning, and simulations. Experience of online teaching is desirable. We welcome colleagues with a passion for student learning and a desire to enhance an inclusive community of learning, in and beyond the school.

The Business School is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Department of Economics and Finance, which is one of three ‘research-led’ departments who share the ambition to advance world-changing knowledge and secure global impact through increasingly collaborative research across disciplines with colleagues in Durham University and beyond.

We seek to appoint an Associate Professor (Teaching) in Finance, with the specific goal of laying foundations for our development in the spaces of Asset Pricing, Financial Econometric Analysis of Networks, Risk Management, Portfolio Selection, Big Data Analysis, and Econometric Analysis of High-Frequency Data. The successful candidate will have expertise in theoretical and/or Empirical Asset Pricing with exceptional quantitative skills. The post is intended to provide high-quality teaching in these fields as a key element of school strategy and interdisciplinary, postgraduate and post-experience teaching development.

The University is committed to developing all of our colleagues to achieve their full potential. We promote and maintain an inclusive and supportive environment to ensure that all colleagues can thrive. Associate Professors (Teaching) engage in teaching, innovation and citizenship whilst fully focussing on the key skills to further enhance their careers. Teaching quality and innovation is critical to ensure a first class learning environment and curricula for all of our students. You will be supported to develop your high-quality teaching expertise and to lead in teaching innovation and excellence to embed our student experience.

All of our academic colleagues are encouraged to engage in wider citizenship to enhance their own development, with Associate Professors (Teaching) providing a significant contribution to the wider student experience.

You will be expected to engage in scholarship related to pedagogy, noting that any other independent research (beyond pedagogy) is not part of this post. The appointment will be on the University’s ‘Teaching Track’ career path, which provides clearly defined opportunities for progression against defined criteria.

We will be carrying out informal interviews with candidates at the European Job Market in Naples (December 6-7, 2018) and at the ASSA meetings in Atlanta (January 4-9, 2019). If you are going to attend these meetings, please specify this in your cover letter.
