The Associate Director for Programs in Data Analytics develops and oversees innovative academic courses and programs in Data Analytics for the College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) and the Penn Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies (PORES) at the University of Pennsylvania. The responsibilities of the position are divided between teaching and administrative duties in LPS online/hybrid undergraduate and professional master’s programs and teaching/research/advising for the PORES undergraduate programs in the College of Arts and Sciences. Teaching experience in quantitative methods for the social sciences is required. The candidate will teach two online Data Analytics courses for LPS each semester and teach applied statistics courses for the Fels MPA one to two times year. The administrative and research duties for the position include assisting with management of and course development for the online Data Analytics certificate, including serving as primary liaison between LPS and Data Analytics faculty. PORES responsibilities include assisting with research projects, contributing to teaching in the undergraduate minor, and assisting with program-related activities.
A Master’s Degree or more and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 5 to 7 years are strongly preferred.
- Experience teaching statistics and data analytics to a broad, non-expert population
- An ability to translate quantitative findings into substantive conclusions
- Extensive experience using the R statistical computing language (https://www.r-project.org), including teaching experience involving the Tidyverse (https://www.tidyverse.org) and the Shiny web application system (https://shiny.rstudio.com). We strongly prefer candidates who have taught this material before.
