Senior Lecturer in Cell Biology and Genetics

The Biological Sciences Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for a full-time position as Senior Lecturer with an initial term of three years, renewable. The anticipated start date is March 1, 2019. The position comes with a competitive salary and benefits package. This is a rare opportunity to teach some of the best undergraduates in the nation in a full-time career position working with a team of dedicated educators and University of Chicago faculty.

The Biological Sciences Collegiate Division (BSCD) is the home to the undergraduate biological sciences curriculum at the University of Chicago. The BSCD offers courses for students majoring in Biological Science and Neuroscience, as well as courses for non-majors working to fulfill their general education requirements or who wish to study some aspect of biology in greater detail.

The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for teaching courses, some designed for majors and some for non-majors, in the areas of cell biology, molecular biology and genetics. Most courses include both lecture and lab components, and some are taught in partnership with University faculty. The Senior lecturer must therefore be able to teach a course independently and to function well as a member of a teaching team. The Senior Lecturer will also design and develop lab components for these courses that reflect the current scientific literature. The Senior Lecturer will be responsible for hiring, evaluating, and assigning and directing work of a technician.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences and experience teaching university level biology lecture and laboratory courses.
To apply for this position, you must submit your application through the University of Chicago's Academic Career Opportunities website at , select requisition # 03940, and upload 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) a sample course syllabus, and 4) course evaluations or evidence of past teaching performance. In addition to the four items that you need to upload into Academic Careers, you will need to provide name and contact information for three references. The ACO system will email your references requesting a letter of recommendation and provide instructions to the recommender on how to upload their letter into your application.

The application deadline is December 20, 2018. Review of applications will begin on December 3, 2018. Only applications that are complete, with all required materials and recommendation letters, will be considered.
