Job Summary

The Neurotechnology Center is looking for a part-time technician to assist with various projects involving the design and construction of microscopes, electronic devices, and various small mechanical widgets for the Neuroscience community at Caltech.

Job Duties

  • Assist with PCB layout and assembly of electronic circuits
  • Machining various small objects for use in neuroscience research using:
    • Laser cutter
    • 3D printers
    • Waterjet cutter
    • CNC mill
    • Manual mill
    • Manual lathe
  • Assemble basic mechanical devices out of off-the-shelf and custom parts
  • Assist with maintenance of machines in the shop
  • Create and maintain Arduino code to control various electronic lab devices

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • Familiarity with basic machining operations, including milling, turning, and CNC machine operation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using CAD software such as Solidworks or Autodesk, and with programming in Arduino and Matlab and/or python
  • A keen interest in neuroscience and a willingness to learn on the job will greatly facilitate success in this position
