Position Description:

The University of Chicago's Department of Neurobiology in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for a Research Assistant Professor, whose primary activity will be academic research in association with a faculty member or team. The successful applicant will contribute to a research project on neuroscience-inspired artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches for understanding neural circuit mechanisms in cognition. We seek a candidate with a background and strong track record in both computational/theoretical and experimental neuroscience approaches to studying higher order brain functions such as memory, learning and decision making. The candidate is expected to establish and direct research involving the application and development of novel machine learning approaches to cognitive neuroscience questions, and to directly compare results from computational work with experimental data.

Applicants must: 1) have a doctoral degree or equivalent; 2) have completed postdoctoral training prior to the start of employment; 3) have demonstrated acumen with respect to artificial intelligence, machine learning, as well as the analysis and interpretation of experimental data from cognitive neurophysiological studies; 4) be able to design and conduct studies independently, supervise staff, prepare and present their work at national meetings, and write scientific manuscripts and grant applications.
