TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS)-Department Teaching Lab (DTL), to oversee and maintain a comprehensive safety program that ensures a safe learning environment for all people using the EECS DTL Engineering Design Studio. Responsibilities include providing assistance and consultation to students and faculty in in the use electronic and mechanical assembly tools for projects associated with class exercises; providing guidance in debugging circuits and in understanding issues and solutions; coordinating activities with other DTL staff to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the teaching space throughout the extended teaching day; ensuring the readiness of the EECS DTL facilities for class activities through overseeing maintenance, stocking, and occasional equipment replacement; and performing other duties as needed. In addition to supervising students, will also responsible for managing safety training, access, and supplies for the class and introducing new capabilities into the lab.
REQUIRED: a bachelor's degree in a technical area; at least five years of experience working in an environment of invention and hands-on engineering that included working with others and creatively solving practical engineering design problems; familiarity with the range of hands-on digital fabrication skills, including design tools for functional systems, additive and subtractive fabrication processes, electronics production, and embedded programming; discretion and judgment; and ability to use discretion and judgment with confidential information and in handling complex teaching and personnel situations. Seek someone who enjoys teaching undergraduate students one-on-one. Should be familiar with machine tools, graphic design, and CAD software (SolidWorks, Mastercam, Eagle, Altium, Corel, Adobe, etc.) for operating CNC tools and designing PCBs or be willing to learn and teach these skills.
