The Institute of Thin Films, Sensors & Imaging within the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences at UWS is well established and an internationally recognised research institute.

An exciting opportunity for a physicist/scientist/engineer has become available to work full time on a 24-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP).  The aim of the project is to develop and launch a new gas sensing system as a commercial product (a part of range of products in Alphasense), as well as develop novel thin film devices using sputtering techniques.

Company information:
Alphasense started in 1997 and is an independent gas sensor development and manufacturing company, producing both portable and fixed air quality monitors for urban air, indoor air quality and odour detection.  They manufacture thousands of electrochemical gas sensors daily and are the largest supplier of oxygen sensors for industrial safety worldwide.  They invest in the four gas sensor technologies: electrochemical, metal oxide, optical, and enthalpic.  Alphasense has committed to the air quality market since 2007 and are one of the main suppliers of low cost air quality sensors, globally.  They invest in manufacturing facilities and research with UK Universities.  Revenue generation is based on selling sensors and sensor systems.
