ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS) OFFICER-SAFETY PROGRAM, to serve in a leadership role and provide expert advice on safety programs in support of Institute academic and business objectives with due consideration of occupational health and safety laws, federal and state regulations, and good practices. Will lead initiatives, manage programs, and provide advice on research and operations, building projects, and experiments relative to safety concerns. Advice will include the recognition, evaluation, and control of potential and real health hazards ranging from exposures to safety concerns. As skills develop, may work in areas other than main area of expertise.
REQUIRED: three years’ relevant EHS program experience, with emphasis on safety programs and the recognition, evaluation, and control of hazardous materials and conditions and physical agents; bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in an EHS-related discipline, fire protection engineering, and/or biological/chemical science; working knowledge of regulations specific to federal, state, local, and consensus standards for the protection of property and life and occupational health and safety; working knowledge of Massachusetts’ fire prevention regulations and building code, NFPA codes, ANSI standards, OSHA regulations, and Cambridge Municipal Code; evidence of leadership and team building; ability to develop and implement well-integrated EHS programs and promote a culture of safety; strong organizational, strategic-thinking, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills; basic computer and database skills; ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, follow through, and both attend to details and achieve “big picture” results; diplomacy; and good judgment. Seek Certified Safety Professional or someone eligible to obtain certification.
