Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on a project entitled "SUMOrice Exploiting an emerging protein modification system, SUMOylation to boost rice yield during drought and salt stress”. The project will last for 5 months starting from 1st of November 2018.
The project aims to understand how an emerging protein modification, SUMOylation can be exploited to boost rice resistance against drought and salt stress. The PDRA must be experienced in plant biochemistry, in particular plant reproductive biology and protein analysis including detection of protein post-translational modifications. The PDRA will use state of the art proteomics to identify SUMOylated target proteins in rice during drought and salt stress. The RA will validate these targets impinge on the reproductive biology in rice. The RA will identify SUMO sites on validated target proteins and by using advanced molecular techniques manipulate target SUMO sites to generate novel dominant alleles of genes of these targets that will boost rice productivity under drought and salt stress. A background in the study of plant stress signalling and in plant transformation is desirable. Evidence of technical competence in plant reproductive biology will be required. The successful candidate must have good communication skills and a publication record in protein purification.
