The School of Engineering and Technology is seeking to make one open ended appointment in automotive engineering. We seek to appoint one high achieving engineer/scientist to this academic post. We would also welcome applications from those wishing to work on a part time or job share basis.
Applicants should have a first degree in Automotive Engineering/Mechanical Engineering and a qualification at master level or equivalent in an appropriate discipline with subject specific knowledge in automotive design or substantial experience working in automotive industry.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Applicants for the post will contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well help to drive forward the School’s portfolio of research and commercial activities. Applicants are also expected to develop short courses, commercial and KTP related activities in the School. Candidates with automotive industrial experience and /or relevant research are particularly welcome. In particular, applicants should be able to contribute to teaching in at the following areas:
- Vehicle Design
- Automotive Structural Analysis and Design
- Electric or Hybrid Vehicle Design
The successful candidate will undertake an administrative role in the School such as Module Leadership, assisting with programme management or other similar duties, provide leadership in an aspect of research or commercial activities or other similar duties, and undertake other duties within the framework of the post as delegated by line manager.
Skills and Experience Needed as Follows:
For appointment of the post, the candidates should demonstrate experience of delivering teaching, learning and student support at University level, or substantial industrial experience and /or a strong track record of research publications and evidence of securing external funding or working on significant engineering projects of high values. In particular, the experience in teaching or tutoring at undergraduate level and/or postgraduate level, in supervising and managing projects, as well as undertaking commercial activities and in working with external organisations are welcomed.
The School of Engineering and Technology offers degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Automotive Engineering with Motorsport, Motorsport Technology and Automotive Technology with Management, as well as degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Civil Engineering. The successful applicant will be expected to have the potential to undertake the full range of duties commensurate with a research-informed, teaching School.
