Job Description

Location: 

Duke Raleigh Pathology Laboratory, Raleigh, NC with occasional coverage at Duke Regional Hospital Pathology Laboratory in Durham, NC, as needed. 

Description: 

Immediate full-time opportunity for a qualified Pathologists’ Assistant with excellent verbal and written skills to join our team.  Responsibilities include working with current PA staff to gross surgical specimens (ranging from biopsies to complicated cancer resections), assist with frozen sections, perform gross photography (for documentation and tumor board utilization), prepare block diagrams, select tissue for ancillary studies, maintain quality assurance reports, correspond with surgeons, provide supplemental accessioning as needed, and complete additional duties, as required. 

Shift:  First 

Hours:  9:00 – 5:30 (flexibility required for PTO coverage) 

Types of Gross Specimens:  Biopsies to complex surgical resections. 

Number of Pathologists:  4 (DRAH); 3.5 (DRH) 

Current PA Staffing:   

2 full-time PAs (based at Duke Raleigh) and 2 full-time PAs (based at Duke Regional) with shared hospital coverage and PTO scheduling, as needed. 

Education Requirements:   

  • PA (ASCP) 
  • Successful completion of qualified PA program accredited by the American  
  • Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).  
  • At least 5 years of experience preferred.

Details: 

No on-call. 

No weekends. 

No autopsies. 

Rare teaching and training of residents and PA students.
