Role Description

Do you believe that health & safety is about taking practical steps to protect people from real harm and suffering? We do.

Cranfield is a specialist postgraduate university that is a global leader for education and research in technology and management. The University is proud to be certified to OHSAS 18001 across all of its operations and we are committed to maintaining and building upon this achievement. We are very clear that certification is only one phase in our determination to ensure that our operations are supported in a proportionate manner which puts the health and safety of our staff and students at the heart of all we do.

To achieve this we require a proactive, innovative professional for the Health and Safety Department. You will be the main point of contact for a School, whilst your expertise and knowledge in technical/engineering issues will provide advice, guidance and support across all areas of the University.

You will assist in enhancing health and safety in the University both in terms of engagement with the management system and the specific operational requirements.  Skilled in acting as an agent for positive and lasting change, you will need to be fully capable of developing workable, pragmatic solutions, co-ordinating improvement activities, producing concise supporting materials and capable of evaluating performance.

You will be qualified to at least NEBOSH Certification or equivalent, and ideally be a member of IOSH or a recognised professional body. You will have significant relevant post qualification experience in supporting senior managers in a large diverse organisation, with evidence of working both independently and as part of a team. Above all you will have outstanding influencing and negotiation skills, and share our passion for innovation and best practice.
