About the position

We have a vacancy for one Postdoctoral Fellowship position within urban data management and smart city enterprise architecture at the Department of Computer Science (IDI) (http://www.ntnu.edu/idi).

The appointment as a Postdoctoral Fellow in smart city data architecture is for a term of 3 years. One year will be with teaching duties. The main tasks will be linked to the upcoming EU H2020 SCC-1 Smart City and Community Lighthouse +CityxChange, due to start in November 2018. The position of a Postdoctoral Fellow is a fixed term position with the primary objective of qualifying for work in top academic posts.

Job description

The candidate will be a member of the Information Systems and Software Engineering research group in IDI, Trondheim and will work with the "+CityxChange" project. A brief description of the project is provided below:

Trondheim, Limerick, Alba Iulia, Pisek, Sestao, Smolyan and Voru and their industry and research partners are joining forces to co-create the future we want to live in. They have detailed out their ambitions into the +CityxChange project, which focuses on a structured approach on how to develop and deploy Positive Energy Blocks and Districts and scale these out as a part of the Clean Energy Transition.

The approach combines Integrated Planning and Design, a Common Energy Market and a +CommunityxChange stakeholder engagement in the city. New forms of integrated spatial, social, political, economic, regulatory, legal, and technological innovations will deliver citizen observatories, innovation playgrounds, regulatory sandboxes, and Bold City Visions to engage all stakeholders to scale up from Positive Energy Blocks (e.g. a few connected buildings) to Positive Energy Cities, supported by a distributed and modular ICT Ecosystem Architecture and Data Integration approach.

The project aims to realize Europe-wide deployment of Positive Energy Districts by 2050 and prepare the way for fully Positive Energy Cities. The ICT Ecosystem Architecture will support this through orchestration and support of distributed services and data, recommendations on the use of big data and citizen engagement, and Enterprise Architecture approaches.

The candidate will work with the following tasks within this project:

  • Development of a scalable ICT Ecosystem Architecture and Roadmap for a Smart City
  • Approaches to open data, data Integration and Interoperability for the ICT Ecosystem
  • Enterprise Architecture and API repositories to support service development and Open Innovation 2.0
  • Participate in Smart City related research activities at the department and NTNU
  • Lead and supervise student projects related to ICT Ecosystem Architecture and urban big data analytics
  • Integration and learning from the existing H2020 projects

Qualification requirements

Postdoctoral fellow:

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in Information Systems, Software Engineering, Databases or similar topics or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

Experience in the areas of data management and Enterprise Architecture are relevant. Further, the candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills. Communication and cooperation skills in an international and inter-disciplinary setting are important qualities that will be considered. Candidates with research results in the domain of Smart Cities would be preferred. Experience with data visualization, information systems, smart homes, or energy systems is a plus. Experience with EU projects is also preferred. Emphasis will be put on personal qualities and the potential as a researcher.octoral degree is required.

The position requires strong English oral and writing skills as the candidate will be interacting with a team of international researchers. Collaboration in the project, scientific papers, and project reports will be in English. We expect a willingness to travel.

If the applicant’s PhD is not from an English-speaking country, the following tests can be used as documentation: TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).

Minimum scores are:

  • TOEFL: 600 (paper-based test), 92 (Internet-based test)
  • IELTS: 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)
  • CAE/CPE: grade B or A

We offer

Salary and conditions

Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 per annum before tax. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years with teaching duties.

Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
