About the Graduate Research Team
Our busy Graduate Research team sit within the MSE Academic Support Office, we provide outstanding support to a cohort of over 700 students in the Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy and Study Abroad and Exchange research opportunities. Academics look to our expertise to provide a unique end to end service for our graduate research students.
In this fantastic senior leadership opportunity, you will be responsible for leading a small but dynamic Graduate Research Team and their performance whilst developing and achieving the overarching growth strategy for MSE by attracting, retaining and providing exceptional enrichment opportunities to our diverse graduate research students.
You will oversee the successful implementation of all graduate research development activities from the development of recruitment strategies, managing graduate research students from admissions through to timely thesis examination, including graduate research applications and offers, leading enrichment activities, managing course proposal and subject review process for students and lead the scholarships committee and grievance processes.
This role will involve the application of solid research policy and higher education expertise to help develop and oversee the policies and procedures in relation to graduate research students that arise from both University and Government level requirements.
You will act as a champion of the ASO and Graduate Research, working closely with academic stakeholders across the School providing advice and support to ensure successful student outcomes for the school. You will liaise more broadly across the university and influence the direction of the University Wide research programs of work to best suit the needs of our school.
This role would suit an established leader within higher education or someone who has graduate research experience who is looking for their next career step to lead a team.
Along with your strong operational expertise, key to your success with be having the ability to communicate and work collaboratively and cross-functionally. You will have a deep understanding of interpreting policy and procedures and have a successful track record in delivering student growth plans to achieve goals and champion change. You love building and maintaining relationships, representing at a variety of committees and steering groups, whilst leading high priority projects to drive greater graduate researcher retention and timely completions.
What you’ll need
- Team leadership experience; ability to work across teams who drives a culture of high performance and collaboration, build relationships, and influence academics and senior managers and ability to develop teams with appropriate skills and experience
- A strategic and operational manager, who has experience in managing and delivering student support activities
- Passion for continuous improvement with experience implementing and interpreting policies and procedures
- An excellent communicator, with the ability to influence and drive results
- Open-mind for ambiguity and ability to work in a fast-changing environment with a flexible approach
- Distinctive problem solving and analysis skills, and impeccable business judgment
- Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously to ensure the timely delivery of activities
