Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on the H2020 funded “TOPCAPI: Thoroughly Optimised Production Chassis for Advanced Pharmaceutical Ingredients” project based within the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology. This project involves a total of 8 academic and industry partners from 4 different EU countries. The aim of the TOPCAPI project is to exploit the natural fabrication power of actinomycetes as microbial cell factories to produce high-value pharmaceutical ingredients.

You will join a team of researchers in the TOPCAPI consortium based in the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology, working alongside another computational biologist. The project will be working to iteratively integrate metabolomics information (and transcriptomics-based evidence) into genome-scale metabolic models, for improved flux predictions. As part of this, there will be an on-going development of strategies. This project will be supervised by Professor Rainer Breitling.

You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Computational Biology / Bioinformatics / Systems Biology / Chemical Engineering (or a related subject area), and have technical skills in computer programming, postgenomic data analysis, metabolic modelling, statistics, and systems biology.

The post will be available from 1 January 2019 for 12 months and is suitable for those wishing to work either full time or part-time. There will also be a possibility to extend the position until Dec 2020.
