ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, MIT Open Learning, to develop and deliver communications strategies to enhance brand recognition, publicize research and other newsworthy content, and amplify impact. Will develop, refine, update, and deliver core branding and communications messages for Open Learning; collaborate with MIT News to develop a media relations strategy, particularly pertaining to publications on digital learning and learning research; manage Open Learning’s online branding presence, including website development and updating, social media pages, and videos; conceive of and produce white papers, thought pieces, editorials, MIT News stories, newsletters, etc., to enhance visibility and impact of Open Learning’s research/viewpoints; develop and manage collateral, including brochures, print materials, photo bank, annual report, etc.; coordinate outreach at conferences, symposia and academic events, including identifying and securing speaker slots and managing marketing presence; coordinate with associate director for marketing to conduct online branding campaigns; identify and communicate developments in digital learning and learning research that can be leveraged to support Open Learning’s work; develop and manage a strategy to utilize events to enhance the presence of Open Learning; manage internal communications, including town halls and other methods; develop and employ analytics and other measures to evaluate the impact of communications investments/strategy; and manage one employee and contract freelancers.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred); at least seven years’ progressive experience in communications, journalism, marketing, corporate relations, public relations, or related field; outstanding writing, editorial, verbal communication, and presentation skills; and proven ability to juggle multiple commitments and independently meet competing priorities and deadlines. Experience with brand-building and positioning an organization to achieve impact in competitive communications environment is strongly preferred.
