Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Buildings and Grounds, provides leadership in a team-oriented environment. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of campus buildings to ensure cleanliness. Responsibilities include supervising and coordinating work assignments, determining appropriate staffing levels, inspecting completed work for quality control, and coordinate campus events. Must understand and comply with current OSHA and EPA regulations. Works closely with Building Administrators and Project Managers. Communicates with students, faculty and staff and responds to emergencies during non-duty hours.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the daily operations of a Custodial Section in order to maintain a safe and clean campus environment
  • Collaborate with other Facilities Management staff to ensure productivity, consistency, quality, and efficiency expectations are being met
  • Comply with current regulations pertaining to Custodial Operations, Recycling Operations, and OSHA requirements
  • Maintain established standards of performance and perform daily inspections of work in progress and special projects
  • Plan and develop work schedules, establish priorities and evaluate work performance
  • Observe and enforce management and safety policies in order to maintain a sound work environment which promotes teamwork, integrity, and accountability
  • Perform employee performance evaluation, make salary recommendations, and provide discipline measures
  • Maintain records, prepare correspondence and reports, submit purchase requests, and control supply inventory distribution
  • Manage campus events and develop customer relations, interact frequently with students, faculty, staff and visitors
  • Respond to campus emergencies during non-duty hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent years of both custodial (5) and supervisory (3) experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible custodial work experience, preferably in a hospitality, healthcare, or residential facility
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and materials
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to plan and organize work flow
  • Ability to operate floor cleaning equipment
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and must be able to maintain it throughout the course of employment
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders up to 10 ft. high as needed to perform regular custodial duties and be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time, push, pull, and stoop and bend

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in a technical field
