The Department of Health Management and Policy (HMP) in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan is hiring a tenure track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Health Informatics. We seek an individual with strong scholarly credentials and a record or promise of external research funding.
We welcome candidates whose research interests complement the University’s existing health informatics expertise in a broad array of areas including, but not limited to:
- Clinical Informatics
- Healthcare Informatics
- Public Health Informatics
- Human-Computer Interaction in the health domain
- Consumer Health Informatics
- Data Science in healthcare
- Information Technology in health services research
For many years, HMP has set the standard for excellence in graduate health management and policy education. Our faculty members serve as expert resources to the broader healthcare industry and health services communities. They also are drivers of change who have served as architects of some of the country’s most significant federal programs and health policies, evaluators of change for health care initiatives both large and small, and pioneers in sustainable health financing methods.
Minimum requirements include an earned doctorate by September 1, 2019 in a relevant field along with recognition or promise of outstanding contributions as a scholar.
We seek an individual who will contribute to the HMP tradition of high-impact scholarship, education, and public health leadership. This individual will also be expected to actively contribute to our professional master’s degree program in health informatics offered jointly by the School of Public Health and the School of Information (http://healthinformatics.umich.edu). This innovative master’s program combines the strengths of the School of Information with those of the School of Public Health, and adopts a broad approach that incorporates clinical, consumer, and population and public health informatics. This program is complemented by a certificate option for working professionals and for students enrolled in other programs at the University of Michigan. A joint courtesy appointment with the School of Information is a possibility.
Successful candidates should have an earned doctoral degree by September 1, 2019. Disciplinary background is open, but relevant fields might include health informatics, information, engineering, business, and medicine. The University is developing a major focus on Data Science and therefore HMP would be interested in candidates with expertise in this emerging area.
