The Clifford Chair

The Clifford Chair in Neural Engineering is an endowed Chair in the Melbourne School of Engineering at the University of Melbourne. Generous support and funding from the Clifford family, allows the Chair to develop a state of the art research group dedicated to neural engineering research and the support of a program in neural engineering.  The Chair will work within the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Graeme Clark Institute of Biomedical Engineering.

About the Department of Biomedical Engineering

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a vibrant and rapidly growing department within MSE. We are working on some of the most challenging problems at the interface of engineering with life and medical sciences. The crux of this work being the application of interdisciplinary expertise and thought in order to make new discoveries and innovative solutions towards improved healthcare and social wellbeing. Our research covers the fields of biomaterials and tissue engineering; biomechanics and mechanobiology; bionics, biomedical imaging and neuroengineering; systems and synthetic biology. Our ultimate goal is to improve quality of life by resolving healthcare challenges.

The vision of the Graeme Clark Institute is to shape the future of healthcare with biomedical engineering solutions that deliver health, societal and economic benefits to Australia and the world. The Opportunity

We seek an outstanding research leader as the Clifford Chair in Neural Engineering. Your leadership qualities will be utilised to develop and build our research program in neural engineering within a world-class biomedical precinct. As an established leader, you will have a distinguished scholarly research record and a renowned reputation in the field of neural engineering.

As a leader within our Graeme Clark Institute of Biomedical Engineering, you will demonstrate research excellence, provide leadership in the field amongst national and international peers, and represent the University in public debate as well as government policy development in neural engineering, neuroscience, and medical bionics.

Your Profile

You are an established Professor with demonstrated examples of successfully obtaining competitive research grants and experience in establishing and building high performing research teams whilst delivering excellent research outcomes.

You will bring with you your passion for neural engineering and a solid grounding in this field. You are innovative and have groundbreaking ideas to explore, as well as established contacts within the field. 

With your outstanding communication skills and your commitment and dedication to your work, you will help drive outcomes within your teams. You are collaborative and seek out all opportunities to enhance your work through partnerships with end users, industry partners, clinicians and of course, our donors.
