POLICY AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE, Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), to contribute to J-PAL’s mission of reducing poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence. The primary responsibilities will include writing blog posts and op-eds that highlight the results and policy implications of academic research, developing outreach strategies for target audiences, tracking media coverage of issues relevant to J-PAL’s work, supporting J-PAL’s social media presence, managing email marketing, and providing communications and logistics support for J-PAL events. Will report to the policy and communications manager.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business administration, public policy, or economics; two years’ relevant professional experience; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; clear command of the English language; understanding of how to craft a story to communicate a message; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to ask the right questions to gather pertinent information; strong organizational and project management skills; and ability to work on several projects at once and to plan, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines. Strong candidates will have a demonstrated ability to accurately interpret scientific research and an understanding of how to utilize appropriate communications platforms to reach target audiences. The ideal candidate has marketing and communications experience related to social policy or international development, is analytical, has a strong interest in J-PAL’s mission, and thrives when challenged to develop new ideas and approaches to meeting organizational goals. This is a temporary, one-year appointment.
