The Faculty of Arts is one of five Faculties at the University, incorporating the Schools of Education, Social Sciences, Humanities, and the Elder Conservatorium of Music. The Faculty of Arts Office serves the needs of approximately 5,000 enrolled students in undergraduate, honours and postgraduate coursework programs. 

The School of Education, within the Faculty of Arts, provides opportunities to a range of educators, including teachers, trainers, academics and educational consultants. Through high quality education, the School imparts its vision to produce graduates who can lead learning across global, national and local contexts.

The successful candidates will have experience in quality teaching at the schooling and tertiary sectors, research on educational issues, and be aware of trends in initial teacher education and/or postgraduate areas. You must have a passion for preparing teachers for contemporary classrooms, be an experienced digital practitioner, and have recent experience teaching in the middle/secondary years of schooling. As part of this role, you will be expected to assist the School in its activities as required by accrediting bodies and be able to successfully build upon the School of Education’s partnerships with schools in South Australia. 

Salary: (Level B) $96,135 – $113,788 per annum.

Salary: (Level C) $117,310 - $134,966 per annum

Superannuation: An employer contribution of up to 17% may apply.

Term of position: Two full-time continuing positions available from 2 January 2019. One role will be subject to new Middle Years’ teacher education program accreditation

Position requirements

To be successful in the Lecturer role, you should have:

  • A PhD in Education in an area relevant to the School’s research strengths. 
  • Demonstrate experience in teaching in various modes including online at the tertiary level in initial teacher education middle years’ (Year 7-10) programs and/or postgraduate education programs, preferably in Australia.
  • A strong, demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching.
  • An emerging research record with evidence of recent quality outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of scholarship, research and professional/administrative activities within the School including the ability to work effectively as a member of a team to provide outcomes for pre and in-service teachers.
  • A school teaching qualification and relevant teaching experience in the middle and secondary years of schooling, preferably in Australia.
  • Experience in building partnerships with stakeholders relevant to teaching.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of the higher education sector.

To be successful in the Senior Lecturer role, in addition to the above you should also have:

  • Demonstrate significant experience in teaching at the tertiary level in initial teacher education middle years’ (Year 7-10) programs and/or postgraduate education programs, preferably in Australia.
  • Demonstrate experience in developing, coordinating and teaching education courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in different modes including online, supported through Student Evaluation of Learning and Teaching surveys or other evidence of teaching excellence and capacity.
  • A research record with evidence of recent quality research outputs including publications and grants.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of scholarship, research and professional/administrative activities within the School including the ability to work effectively as a member of a team to provide outcomes for pre and in-service teachers.
  • Experience in the supervision of Higher Degree by Research students.
