The Biedermann Lab for Orthopaedic Research at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking an individual to fill a full time Research Engineer ( Research Specialist A) position. The candidate will assist in coordinating studies on multiple research projects and perform a variety of benchtop and in vitro studies which require careful attention to detail. Experiments will include biomechanical testing and analysis, machining custom-made fixtures, and analyzing and processing data in Matlab. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, and keeping a well-organized lab notebook. The candidate must be able to follow directions carefully, solve problems, and function well within a team environment.
The Research Specialist B position will be required to interpret and present testing results to other researchers and clinicians independently. Additionally, the Research Specialist B position will be asked to formulate grant proposals, and write technical articles with minimal oversight.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
The minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biomechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 0 to 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required for the Research Specialist A position.
The minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biomechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field and 1 to 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required for the Research Specialist B position. A Master’s degree is preferred but not required for the Research Specialist B position.
Experience in machining and the use of universal testing frames is desirable but not required. Salary is competitive and based on experience with an excellent fringe benefit package. The position will be filled as soon as the appropriate individual is identified.
