JOB PURPOSE:

Serve as the technical expert in the performance of facilities engineering responsibilities involving the planning, design, construction, modification, operation, maintenance, and utilities servicing of campus facilities. May oversee a team of facilities professionals' work assignments.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Serve as an expert, providing design and technical recommendations in area(s) of specialization. May include development and implementation of programs and systems, and interfacing and coordination with/across specialties and disciplines.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical systems issues which may have high visibility and/or high risk/consequences of failure.
  • Serve on major, ongoing, technically complex projects requiring substantial coordination and interface with senior management.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze projects' technical plans and specifications for sound design, conformance with design guidelines and other related criteria, and pertinent codes or standards.
  • Represent department or lead specific project teams and review committees.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans.
  • Serve as a technical lead on projects in area(s) of expertise across multiple disciplines, and/or contractor activities, through all project phases.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Engineering, etc.). Ten years of directly related experience. Experience leading technical or cross-functional teams. Experience managing complex projects or groups of projects.​

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.
  • Deep technical knowledge in area of expertise.
  • Technical and maintenance knowledge in facility building systems.
  • Proficiency with standard desktop applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Knowledge of scheduling, project management tools and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and control scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with engineering software related to assignment.
  • Understanding and ability to perform/evaluate lifecycle cost analysis.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate potential project risk components.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently sitting, perform desk-based computer tasks, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-20 pounds,
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations.
  • May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA.
  • May working at heights 4 - 10 ft.
