This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious graduate with the ability and confidence to manage a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project at Cloudwater Brew Co, a Manchester brewery that specialises in modern, seasonal beer.

The University of Manchester and Cloudwater are looking to recruit a talented early career researcher in the field of Biology and Biotechnology to undertake this 24 month project, based at Cloudwater and supported using the facilities of the University of Manchester.

The goal of the project is to develop new products, improved processes, and embed capabilities within the company. The scope of the project covers analysing microbial communities in spontaneous fermentation via metagenomic studies, improving products, iterating and evolving processes to increase impact and production output, refining lab analysis for faster and more accurate quality feedback, developing new products with novel yeast strains, and quantifying and improving flavour profiles.

The position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to both progress scientific research relevant to modern beer and apply the results practically in a leading brewery.

Candidates will require a recently-obtained minimum of a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences. A Master degree in Biology or Biotechnology and/or previous laboratory experience is desirable. The project would allow a candidate to pursue a part-time PhD if desired.

This post is funded through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) award, a UK Government scheme intended to promote sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry.

Based at Cloudwater Brew Co. Ltd Units 7-8, Piccadilly Trading Estate, Manchester, M1 2NP, (http://www.cloudwaterbrew.co ) the successful candidate will work directly with supervisors from both the University and Cloudwater and will use the facilities and resources of both organisations.

On successful completion of the KTP project there is the potential to move into permanent employment with Cloudwater Brew Co., and continue working at the worldwide award-winning company.
