Job Description

Duke Eye Center -Cary

JOB DUTIES
1. Document accurately patient history and meaningful use requirements
2. Measure Visual Acuity, lensometry and perform refractions
3. Confrontational visual field test, Extraocular Motility, Color Vision and Pupil Assessment
4. Anterior segment slit lamp examination
5. Special testing that may include OCT, Humphrey Visual Fields, Fundus photography, topography, pachymetry and axial length measurements
6. Assist in patient preparation for ocular injections
7. Assist with appointment and telephone call screening activities
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively with team
• Able to communicate clearly with patient, families and the healthcare team.
• Able to type, use computer and learn new software programs
• Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/ PREFERENCES
Work requires completion of Ophthalmic Technician training and certification as a certified Ophthalmic Technician by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology(JCAHPO).

None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

LICENSURE/ CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Work requires completion of Ophthalmic Technician training and certification as a certified Ophthalmic Technician by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology(JCAHPO).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work under time pressures in a busy clinic/office environment.
  • Must be present on site for 8 hour shifts during standard business hours.
  • Must participate in group activities requiring interpersonal skills & cooperation.
  • Must work as late person when scheduled or according to business needs
  • Must be able to react quickly and immediately respond to emergencies.
  • Must travel between locations on needed basis.
  • Must be able to handle multiple assignments, conflicting demands &priorities.
  • Must maintain attention to detail over extended period of time.
  • Must be continually aware of variations in changing situations.
  • Must be able to move throughout office environment throughout day.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to push/pull 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry 30 lbs. Must be able to reach for objects by extending arms.
