Reporting to the Director of Penn Engineering Online, the Associate Director for Course Operations will manage the day-to-day responsibilities associated with course design and delivery for high-profile programs and initiatives including for-credit, non-credit and blended. Serving as the project manager and team lead for course design and staff, the Associate Director will be responsible for maintaining deadlines, ensuring courses are completed on time and within budget and ensuring courses meet university standards (including copyright and accessibility). Having direct responsibility for the quality of online offerings and managing the academic experience, the Associate Director will identify and recommend to faculty, staff and other key stakeholders instructional strategies, assessment methods, and technologies that align with instructional needs and provide guidance on the development of learning experiences. Bringing an in-depth understanding of evidence-based learning theories, instructional theories, and their applications, the Associate Director will serve as a resource and subject matter expert in developing innovative approaches to teaching and learning in the online environment. Additionally, the Associate Director will stay abreast of current trends in online learning course design, delivery, research and evaluation and serve as a liaison to the larger instructional design community.

A Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous experience working in an academic setting directly with faculty required. Knowledge of higher education teaching, online learning experience preferred. Experience with educational technology implementation and integration required. Previous experience managing multi-year projects required. Previous experience managing staff preferred.
