The Department of Dermatology, Oro Lab, seeks a Life Science Technician I (LST-1) to join the translational team working towards the iPS cell-based therapy for correction of the genetic disease epidermolysis bullosa. The LST-1 would perform cell culture, isolation and cell sorting. Additional tasks would include: immunocytochemistry, tissue cryo-sectioning and basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. The LST-1 would assist in maintaining adequate stock of lab supplies and ensure proper functioning of equipment.

Required Qualifications: 

  • At least one to two years of relevant lab experience with demonstrated competence in sterile cell culture technique and standard laboratory procedures
  • B.S. degree in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, or related field is desired
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in small groups
  • Required to work flexible hours including some weekends
  • Excellent record keeping abilities
  • Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques including: DNA/RNA extraction and gel electrophoresis, qPCR and basic statistics
  • Ability to use Microsoft office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Assist in maintaining adequate stock of lab supplies and ensure proper functioning of equipment

Familiarity with:

  • Molecular Cloning
  • NGS and library preparation

Additional Experience a plus

  • Immunocytochemistry and Microscopy
  • FACS analysis and Cell sorting
  • iPSC or Stem Cell culture
