Position overview

The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) leads intellectual engagement with the Asia-Pacific region through research, teaching and contributions to public debate, and seeks to set the international standard for scholarship concerning the region.

The School of Culture, History and Language brings together scholars, undergraduate and graduate students to achieve the highest level of excellence in teaching and research at both national and international level.

The Program of Anthropology is seeking to appoint a scholar with a strong record of field research in, and high-quality publication on, island Southeast Asia. Preference will be given to an anthropologist who has carried out research in Indonesia, but applicants with experience in other areas of island Southeast Asia will be considered. The Program has a distinguished record of research in the region, with particular strengths at the College level on Indonesia’s history, Islam and political culture. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct a program of research in an area of contemporary theoretical significance, such as environmental politics and well-being, language, religious and political processes.

The Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) will be expected to make significant contributions to research, teaching and administration activities of the School and their interdisciplinary area at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level. The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer will be expected to play a major role in scholarly research and activities relevant to the discipline and will be required to carry out academic responsibilities and related administration for the coordination of program activities.

This opportunity is being offered as a full-time, fixed term appointment of three years with the possibility of extension or conversion to a continuing appointment, subject to funding availability, strategic priorities and satisfactory performance.
