FINANCIAL OFFICER, Media Laboratory, to serve as an integral member of a ten-person financial team. Will be responsible for complex financial activity associated with Media Lab’s research and consortium funding. Responsibilities include managing a complex portfolio of research groups and initiatives; performing high-level financial work, including analyzing and strategically planning for research funding projections, personnel allocations, and other resource management issues; ensuring all post-award transactions within the portfolio are completed within set timeframes, including sponsor reporting, sub-award management, cost object maintenance, etc.; developing innovative solutions for enhanced performance of department operations; assisting with the preparation of research proposal submissions to industrial, foundation, and federal sponsors during peak periods; and ensuring financial compliance with Institute policies/procedures and applicable agency rules and regulations.
The Media Lab, a large interdisciplinary lab, is supported by more than eighty members, including some of the world’s leading organizations. Members provide the majority of its approximately $75 million annual operating budget.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, accounting, economics, or related quantitative field; five years’ direct experience in financial management and analysis; meticulous attention to detail and accuracy when managing data; sound judgment; high-level proficiency with Excel; excellent written and oral communication skills; and a proactive, self-motivated, and flexible approach to daily activities. Must be able to work independently; see tasks through to completion; manage multiple projects/priorities; follow best practices; create well-formatted analysis that is easy to understand; and work in a dynamic and fluid environment, interacting with faculty and staff at all levels. Knowledge of standard federal regulations and MIT business systems (SAP, KC, Tableau, Cognos, B2P, Concur).
