Virtual Reality Innovation Researcher
VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) INNOVATION RESEARCHER, Office of Digital Learning (ODL), to contribute to the design, execution, production, and assessment of innovative virtual reality and related technology-based experiences in the Center for Advanced Virtuality. Will contribute to developing and guiding experimental projects (producing novel experiences) at various phases including contributing to boundary-pushing development, innovative R&D, assessment, and dissemination. The research may contribute to fund-raising/grant writing in a secondary capacity. Will share knowledge of experimental VR/XR/AR/MR, etc., media development at each stage with the aim of creating unprecedented novel types of experiences as opposed to well-known solutions; share knowledge of XR hardware and software; work with the center director on project budgets, contracts, and hiring appropriate to R&D aims; work with creators on social impact design through metrics definition, ROI, user centric methodology (personas/segmentation, user testing, etc.); identify the current needs of the content along with the assessment of what role the content can play in supporting the social impact movement; create traditional, niche, and social media strategies to disseminate and popularize aims and outcomes for broader impact; and disseminate content in multiple formats to reach the target audience(s).

REQUIRED: advanced degree; at least seven years’ professional experience on real-world projects; VR/AR or related work experience; experience guiding innovative, impactful VR projects with broad impact (R&D); strong skills applying research approaches to real-world innovation; ability to communicate clearly and effectively and work well with a team; strong problem-solving skills; evaluation, QA, and process optimization experience/certification; and ability to understand project directors’ wishes to propose the best innovative technological solutions.
