This is an exciting opportunity to join the proton therapy research activities in Manchester. The UKs first high energy NHS clinical proton therapy centre will open at The Christie in Manchester later in 2018. The proton therapy research activities are being developed through a partnership between the University of Manchester and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust. These will use the proton therapy research room in the new clinical proton therapy centre.

This post is funded through an EPSRC grant OPTIMA (OPTIMIsing proton therapy through Imaging). The project has 8 UK partners and is aimed towards realising proton CT in a clinical environment. The post will involve developing the end-station to enable the integration of the proton CT device OPTIMA developed in this project, with the research beam line and scanning nozzle in the proton therapy research room. It will involve the design, integration and testing of the proton CT end-station, working closely with the other OPTIMA partners. The testing of OPTIMA on the proton CT end-station will involve using Eclipse treatment planning software to plan the delivery of proton therapy in anthropomorphic phantoms and then using the OPTIMA device for range verification measurements.

Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) in medical physics; physics; mechanical, electronic or chemical engineering. You must also have experience in radiotherapy, medical imaging or equivalent. You will be expected to have experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post is tenable from September 2018 for a period of 45 months.
