The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, is seeking a Director of High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) responsible for designing and developing reactions for micro-scale parallel reaction optimization and developing parallel synthesis designs and workflows for the fee-for-service center, and support ongoing efforts of the academic groups at UPenn and other external colleges. The responsibilities will also include continuation of business generation, facility instrument maintenance and general day to day facility administrative tasks. Develop an active research program, personally and collaboratively with the aim of presenting work at national meetings to further showcase the center’s capabilities, and towards securing external funding from government and foundation resources and work with departmental principle investigators to develop multi-P.I. grant applications for submission to funding agencies. Attend executive forums with relevant external partners and generate new business leads at technology-expositions, conferences etc., and liaise with external business partners to further the capabilities of fee for service work to allow effortless integration between both parties. Train and assist users (undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate) on parallel micro-scale experimentation for reaction optimization, maintain analytical instruments and plan out instrument upgrades when necessary and secure new equipment for expanding needs of the High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) Center

Ph.D. or foreign equivalent, in Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with at least 3 years of experience in designing and developing reactions. Five to ten years of experience strongly preferred. Ideal candidate will have experience performing and developing workflows for (i) micro-scale parallel reaction optimization; (ii) small molecule synthesis and purification, analysis and characterization; and (iii) working with air sensitive materials under inert atmospheres, utilizing transition metal catalysis. The ideal candidate will attend executive forums with relevant external partners and generate new business leads at technology-expositions, conferences etc., and liaise with external business partners to further the capabilities of fee for service work to allow effortless integration between both parties and expand upon current U-Penn scientific collaborations.
