The Stanford Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology seeks to improve women’s health through innovative and compassionate care, education, advocacy, and discovery. Our finance staff helps us achieve this mission by providing financial reporting and analysis to support decision-making, and by contributing to the development and implementation of fiscal policies and procedures.

The Department is seeking a Financial Analyst 2 to perform complex finance functions and activities requiring advanced knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems. Previous financial experience at Stanford University or other higher education institutions highly desired.

Duties include:

  • Budgeting, Analysis & Reporting
  • Perform and design ad hoc analyses of large complex data sets: reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve complex issues which span multiple schools and departments.
  • Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high level summary of recommendations. Will develop annual budget for individual department/unit and programs within the Department.
  • Conduct analysis and resolution, and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.
  • Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. Manage compliance program for area of responsibility, and create complex compliance reports.
  • Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties. 
  • Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives with financial analysis. Make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes. 
  • Contribute to unit and organization strategy; assist in the development of change management plans and materials as needed. 
  • Forecast financials for new program initiatives.
  • Create, track and reconcile event and program specific budgets.
  • Complete month end and quarterly financial reporting for Department.
  • Contribute to development of budgeting and forecasting used to inform key activities and decision making.
  • Financial Transactions & Systems
  • Manage labor scheduling and distribution for staff and faculty for the clinical practice.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation for area of responsibility. 
  • Office Operations
  • Support general office operations and office financial transactions. Understand and participate in cross training on core functions in Center.
  • Participate as a member of project teams and contribute to change management strategy through communication and collaboration with others. Participate in team wide initiatives, team player willing to help with whatever necessary to accomplish office goals.
  • Keep staff up to date on new financial policies and regulations as introduced by Stanford.
  • Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, and identify opportunities for process improvement.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience using Stanford financial systems is desired.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly sitting. 
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
  • Rarely reach/work above shoulder.
