The Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University is one of the largest of its kind in the world and has a global reputation for combining research and teaching practice.  

The School of Journalism, English and Communication (JEC) is seeking highly talented, enthusiastic and motivated people. As well as providing academic leadership alongside other members of the team, you will strengthen the research and enterprise profile of the Faculty. 

The focus of this post is on communication and media, its theory and practice. You will be involved in the development of learning and teaching in the area of communication and media with consideration for the successful candidate’s areas of expertise. Teaching responsibilities may involve unit leadership or input on one or more of the following units depending on expertise: Public Relations, Communication and Marketing, Introduction to Communication Theory, Dissertation and Masters Projects. You will bring a strong academic profile to bear on practical learning and research-led teaching, combined with an ability to innovate. You will be provided with a balanced workload, which takes account of research and professional practice aligned with communication and media. 

You will be a team player who will primarily be involved with the teaching teams on the BA (Hons) Communication and Media and MA Media and Communication. You will be enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy, your contribution to education delivery could include unit leadership as required, across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will contribute to employability and professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations as appropriate, at a regional, national and international level. You will be willing to engage in leadership at unit level, as well as performing the duties of an academic advisor. You will be expected to demonstrate an emerging body of published work, with a research plan for the short to medium term, and willingness to participate fully in developing the research environment in the Faculty. 

You will be qualified to Doctorate level or be able to demonstrate the ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level and the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum of 3-5 years from the date of appointment. You will be research active and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement. 

This post is available on a fixed-term basis until 31/08/2019 to cover the secondment of an established member of staff. Consideration may also be given to the post being offered as a secondment opportunity.  

Although this is a full time role available, applications for fractional appointments will also be considered.
