A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding and ambitious materials scientist to undertake research in the field of graphene synthesis and functionalisation. The position will be held in the Advanced Nanomaterials Group at the School of Materials, under Dr. Mark Bissett and Prof. Ian Kinloch. The research is part of a collaboration between the PETRONAS Research SDN BHD and the University of Manchester to develop new composite materials for use in the oil and gas industry. You will be based in the School of Materials and the National Graphene Institute and will be collaborating with researchers in PETRONAS, Malaysia.

You will be an experienced materials chemist that has competence in both graphene synthesis and chemical functionalisation using various techniques. You should be able to work under pressure, to maintain a high degree of accuracy, and to write and present your work both internally and for wider dissemination. You should have a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline and a strong publication track record. It would be advantageous to have competence in measuring the barrier properties of films/coatings or experience in polymer nanocomposites. You will be part of a rapidly growing team working in graphene, and other 2D materials, across the faculty and the National Graphene Institute.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
