POLICY ASSOCIATE (EDUCATION)Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL)-Policy and Communications Group, to contribute to J-PAL’s mission of promoting evidence-informed policy. The Education Sector seeks to improve access to and delivery of high-quality schooling at the primary and post-primary levels through research on issues involving pedagogy, teacher training, incentives, school governance, early childhood development, and information and communications technology.  Responsibilities include supporting the sector manager and sector cochair in synthesizing literature from economic research related to education; supporting staff in producing policy publications and presentations, organizing policy outreach events, developing new research partnerships, and supporting efforts to promote evidence use and scale-up of effective programs with policymakers; creating publications, evaluation summaries, and website content that translates J-PAL’s economic research into lessons for policymakers; conducting research and analysis for policy memos, grant proposals, and sector-specific work; gaining regional expertise by supporting one of J-PAL’s offices in Africa, Europe, Latin America, North America, South Asia, and/or Southeast Asia; providing support to broader J-PAL projects; and undertaking professional development opportunities.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s or master’s degree that includes significant training in international education and economics, including intermediate-level economics, econometrics, and calculus; two years’ relevant work experience; strong communication, writing, organizational, and strategic thinking skills; passion for translating research into action; understanding of how to communicate policy lessons from technical academic research in ways that policymakers/practitioners understand; comfort learning computer applications, including Salesforce; detail-orientation; self-motivation; and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and effectively manage time. Demonstrated academic interest in international development policy, international education, and/or study abroad experience desired.  Knowledge of Spanish, French, or other languages a plus.
