This is an opportunity for a talented experimentalist to contribute towards the cutting edge science and technology of graphene and other two-dimensional materials (2DM) by working on a European Graphene Flagship (GF) project. The project, based in at the School of Physics and Astronomy and the National Graphene Institute at Manchester, will encompass (i) the development of van der Waals heterostructures of 2D materials and studies of their electronic properties, and (ii) development of imaginative methods to tune the properties of 2D materials by utilizing proximity effects and controlled electrochemical intercalation.

We seek a highly motivated and well-trained experimentalist with an active interest in 2D materials (proven by publications record) and practical skills in preparation and associated characterisation of 2DM heterostructures. Proven experience of 2D device fabrication, including mechanical exfoliation of air-sensitive materials and glove-box transfer techniques will be a particular advantage.

The PDRA will work with Prof Irina Grigorieva, in collaboration with Prof A Geim, on novel approaches to tailoring electronic properties of 2D materials by proximity to superconductors and/or ferromagnets and by intercalation with alkali metals. Fabrication of the devices will be combined with transport and structural characterization.

With your application you should upload a single file comprising your CV, list of publications, and a 1 page research statement describing your research skills and interests.
