About the role

This is a key position that will provide leadership and strategic direction in the delivery of key Library strategic imperatives. The Executive Director, Library and University Librarian (University Librarian) is a key leadership position reporting to the DVC (Academic) and plays a central role in linking the Library across the Academic and Research areas of the University to give effect to the Strategic Goal of delivering an outstanding student experience.   You will ensure the Library continues to excel in supporting outstanding learning and research at La Trobe.

The University Librarian will lead and direct the University’s libraries to transform the lives of students and communities through learning and knowledge creation, by providing integrated scholarly collections, relevant and responsive information services and fit-for-purpose managed learning spaces.

This position plays a major role in contributing to the University’s major policy and planning forums; championing leading practice in the delivery of high-quality, client-focused services and programs to ensure the achievement of the University’s learning, teaching and research objectives.

Key priorities for this position will include;

  • Leading the La Trobe Library across campuses and modes of engagement
  • Delivering the 2018-2022 Library Plan focussed on three key themes:
  • The Library environment reimagined
  • Customised and personalised experience
  • Leadership and community engagement
  • Continuing the current library leadership team’s strong culture of service to students and staff.

Skills & Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have a distinguished record in Librarianship. You will also demonstrate experience in managing a large and geographically dispersed Library. You will demonstrate professional maturity, tenacity and resilience, as well as an outstanding record of national or international achievement in librarianship, breadth of vision, strategic thinking, and demonstrable experience leading and inspiring teams in an innovative library environment. Well developed communication skills – both verbal and written – will be critical in effectively performing this role.
