Health and Social Services Librarian

The University of Chicago Library seeks an innovative, service-oriented librarian to support research, teaching and learning on campus for faculty, students and staff in the Biological Sciences Division, the University of Chicago Medical Center and the School of Social Services Administration. Reporting to the Director of Library Research in Medical Education, the Health and Social Services Librarian provides a range of research services including reference, consultations, customized instruction, communication and outreach. Through an understanding of researcher needs and the scholarly environment, the Librarian acquires, manages, and preserves electronic and print materials in psychology, psychiatry, nursing, social services administration, and related fields. As part of a collaborative team, the Librarian works together with the Library's new Center for Digital Scholarship and colleagues across the Library and the University to promote digital scholarship. The Librarian is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations and 1 full time staff member of the Social Services Administration Library, a branch library with 39,000 titles covering all aspects of social services, social welfare, and social work.

The Library seeks candidates with skills and abilities to help transform instruction, outreach, reference and collections, who are creative in solving problems in a collaborative environment and are able to identify opportunities to build and strengthen partnerships with others at the University.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an MLS or MLIS from an accredited school of library information science or an advanced subject degree; experience in an academic library, and experience with databases and resources in health and social services.

Preferred Qualifications: experience working in a departmental library is strongly preferred.
