The Department of Oncology is seeking a Laboratory Coordinator to be responsible for receiving and preparing clinical trial sample collection kits and transporting them to the Research Phlebotomy department and the BioSpecimen Repository Core (SAC). The coordinator will be expected to independently perform receiving, preparation, and delivery duties. Assists with tracking upcoming research subject visits and the required kits for each visit.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Understands and uses the electronic inventory/barcode system to log received kits and supplies
- Prepares sample collection kits and completes requisition forms for subject visits
- Helps organize and maintain the kit inventory, including removing expired kits
- Helps keep track of upcoming research subject visits and required kits for each visit
- Communicates with study teams regarding inventory levels and subject visit scheduling
- Assists in training new personnel for kit receiving and preparation
- Troubleshoots kits with missing or damaged supplies
- References and understands laboratory manuals and protocols for clarification when needed
- Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Director.

- Carries out duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Makes decisions and establishes work priorities on procedure-oriented operations.
High School Diploma or GED with some science coursework and a minimum of one year related laboratory experience required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
